EISA (European Initiative for Sustainable Development in Agriculture) promoted sustainable agriculture in Europe. Martijn was the policy officer of this association for the period of 2016 to 2019 and advocated intensively in Brussels on several issues in relation to EU policy development like the future CAP. Also Martijn advocated to diverse groups of relevant stakeholders in Brussels on sustainable agriculture, like European Commission, Members of Parliament, NGOs and via projects. Because of changing conditions for the members of EISA, after 17 years, EISA quit its activities from 31 December 2018.
EISA stoped its activities as from January 1st 2019. During the 15 years of operation the organization has been supported by several European umbrella organizations actively in large parts of the agriculture sector. ECPA (European Crop Protection Association), ELO (European Landowners Organization), FEFAC (feed industry), SAI platform (food industry), Animal Health Europe (animal medicine) and Fertilizers Europe (fertilizers industry). EISA also was formed by a group of national members, farmer groups from 5 European countries actively involved in developing sustainable agriculture on the ground. For example LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming, UK), Stichting Veldleeuwerik (NL), Odling I Balans (Swe), FARRE (Fr) and smaller farmergroups from Hungary and Luxembourg.
